| Message: | | ...if you sift through the usual regurgitation, it's most salient point is:"prices are set by what buyers are willing to pay"...i've already alluded to this, but some folks are still blissfully unaware of it's full import:the ultimate consumer is..still "US"(for the moment at least..but fading)...&its pithy environmental message: "buy less" ..well, easy to say at this point, but as price gets closer to it's upper limits(based on greed)..it'll be just a cruel comment to the majority..consider when gas hits $5 this next holiday season(and much higher after that)...a great many folks will be unable to afford the "minimum neccessary amount" to go about their most basic lives(get to work, not freeze, shop for basics, etc)...the effect of all that will cause events to unfold as never before in US history...Is everyone so willing to just wait and see how that all comes out?...i don't think it's going to be a happy ending..probably more like an unbelievable nightmare..&the issue is truly not about being right or wrong(despite petty comments by some), it's about clarity..what are the real reasons behind the very unusual spike in crude prices and who's responsible for it?...to a certainty the big oil interests are not the usual mix of companies in a competitive market..they are a "cartel"..they act as one in most respects... and they have huge resources..they are mega-national corporations who care virtually nothing about people..any people anywhere(no favorites here, they truly are all the same)..they all own media and people who are paid to spin the facts to add to the despair and shock of the market dynamics(the new "Prophets of the right to profit")..the various articles which say "don't blame the poor oil companies" are clearly self-serving statements in support of the proposition that HUGE UNCONSCIONABLE PROFITS are the right of a very few...the cartel...no matter what the cost to others..These articles abound right now(go figure, huh?)It is amazing to me how easily so many people are so easily taken in by all the self-serving crapola...I wonder if so many people would be as blinded and as blissfully complacent if all the Water districts got together and said: "tomorrow due to our ability to charge as much as we want, WATER will hereafter cost the same as gasoline!"?...seem far-fetched?...maybe not..interestingly water rights and distribution networks are presently a prime investment for Big OIL money(can you guess where that's going?)..& I'm not at all surprised that so few get it..seems normal these days(normal but sad)...IS THIS Too much to believe?:that the USA is still a world leader and much of what we do for good or bad is copied all over the planet..& IF we did collectively say"ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!" and acted so with some resolve..could it be "another shot heard round the world?"(figuratively speaking)... but in all liklihood the majority will sleep though this "event"(to begin with at least) and the damage which could have been avoided will be permanent and neverending..Sadly,what seems to be missing these days is a different commodity entirely...apparently a real scarce item..i don't think it would even be recognized these days...and certainly not by the United Sheep of America..it's become a baaaaad word..I won't say it outright(wouldn't want to offend the uncommon sensitivities of so many)...but i will spell it out: C-O-U-R-A-G-E...certainly not much of that around here..who'd of thunk?..dk '97 2.8 bg R
