The stiffening ribs on this part should stop at least 2 times their radius away from the 90 degree bend. It certainly has enough spot welds. I'm not a stress guy, but I suspect the cracks are intorduced when the part is bent originally. It just takes n number of cycles cycles to fail.

The current design should be either heated and then bent or stretch formed. I bet it's just stamped cold.
