Don't Tell Me That I'm an Idiot (re: Tires) (363 views) (1133 thread views)
Message: I already know ...

So after all the fine advice you folks give me, I go out and buy the wrong tires, Michelin Primacy. They are the right size and the car still runs great but ... these are for luxury sedans, not sports cars.

I wanted to get Pilot Sport A/S for my '01 Z3 2.5i based on your advice. The BMW dealer wanted twice the amount that the three local tires dealers in Ossining, NY quoted me, so I went with Corsi Tire who I have been getting cheapo tires for my Honda Accord and such vehicles for years and have had no issues with. The day I go to order them (no one carries tires this size in stock), which was yesterday, the manager calls his wholesaler and they say that Sport A/S is no longer made so he convinces me that the Primacy is an upgrade and what I should get for summer only driving. I was so excited to get the car out of storage for the year, that I agreed to it without checking with you all first.

Today they installed the tires and by the time it waa done, we had an appointment, so off we went. It didn't feel like "my car" when I drove, but I chalked that off to the fact that it's been 6 mos. since I last drove it. When we stopped, I noticed that these tires were not the low profile tires that came with the car. After driving some more, I came to the conclusion that the car rode very nicely, in fact, too nicely as I wasn't feeling every little bump in the road. This is nice, but not what I (and I assume you) bought the car for. By this time, the tire store was closed and now I have to wait until tomarrow to deal with it along with what I'm sure will be a fitful sleep.

I also assume that once you buy tires and drive out that there is no returning them. The fact that the tire dealer chose the wrong tire for my car is just my tough luck.

This was a very very expensive mistake. I will not enjoy the car this summer in this condition. I guess that I will have to go back, insist on Sport A/S, hope that they give them to me for cost and chuck these tires into the garage, where they will probably stay until I die and they liquidate my estate.

I have never made a mistake like this in my 54+ years on this or any other planet. I am truly an idiot.
