| Message: | Why spend a lot of money on a performance car, and then skimp on the gas to save a buck a tank? Just doesn't make much sense to me. And the other thing to keep in mind is that our cars have knock sensors. It used to be that if you had a performance car and bought low octane gas you could immediately tell because of knocking and hesitation. With these cars, you will never sense that. The knock sensor will sense any knock and will retard the timing so as to ensure a full burn of the gas. Which means that you spent a bunch of money on a performance car only to effectively decrease its performance. And you won't know it because the electronics will mask it. Not to mention the effects that it could have on the internal workings of the engine. I have heard that lower octane usage will result in more carbon deposits, but can't vouch for that independently. I'm just not willing to take the risk. I guess I've just never understood that approach to gasoline purchasing. I would rather spend a buck a tank, or two bucks a tank, more and know that I am getting the best performance possible.
