Been a long time since I posted anything but like some feed back. I have had my top down for almost 2 months and decided to put the top back up due to cooler weather. After putting my top up I noticed the rubber gasket that is between the plastic rear window and the cloth had split and was dangling like two pieces of spagetti. Also it had split in other places but was still intact. First mistake I made was trying to glue the two pieces back down with some silicone. Long story made short I made a mess of it. Got silicone and adhevise glue all over the cloth top around the window.Took it to a top shop this morning and they said the window replacement would cost $375 from BMW before labor and they also said that zipping in a new window would put a lot of stress on the thread around the rear window and eventually it would start unraveling. They suggested that I spend an additional $400 and get a new top and be done with it because the silicone stains would never come out and dye would not work to cover up the mess. Total cost $1075 which included labor. They also said that even though my top was on a garage queen (40K miles)the avg life of a top is 5 to 7 years and I was ahead of the game. For those who have had top issues does this sound like the right thing to do and does the price sound ball park ?
