I'm not a jedi, but I'll try to 'splain it.

The "A" is simple, it means your car has an automatic transmisison. The 'i' means it's fuel injected.

When you see a Bimmer described as an "E12", it tells you two things: The "E" means it's a car model, and the 12 tells you it's the 5 series that were made between '72-'81. E28 was the 5 series model from '82-88. Yours is probably an E39, someone with more knowledge will have to tell you for sure. If you look at the side bar on the Bimmer boards it shows all the model designations.

Some you will notice are "M3" and M5 and so on. They are the ultra-high performance models of that series with the BMW "M" engines (Which I think stands for Motorsport.

BMW also does something similar to classify their engines. Engines start with an "M" and a number, like M30 or M20. I don't know what your engine model number is.

Does that help?? Bottom line is that you want the E39 board.
