Neutral Safety Switch on 79 528i Automatic Trans (archive)

My girlfriend decided she was rich enough to buy a 528i, but soon realized she isn't rich enough to afford a 528i mechanic. My name isn't Fritz or Rolf or Hans, but I'm working on it despite the handicap. The problem is replacing the Neutral Starter Interlock Switch on the shifter. I've got enough of the console (trim piece that holds radio, shifter, fan grilles & ashtray) off to see that to get it all the way off, I need to remove 2 screws that are blocked by the radio, but I can't remove the radio...

Also, I can see the switch fine, but it's locked in place by the shifter. There's one bolt visible at the rear, maybe more under the carpet-I'll cut some away to check. The question here is whether I can replace the switch without removing the tranny- I'd hate to remove a couple dozen parts from the interior, then find out I really needed to be under the car...

Also, a list of useful German profanities would be helpful- something a bimmer would recognize and respect.
