David-
The 3.5 motor is a torque monster and a joy to drive--but it also plays hell on the body/monocoque. The most common problem with this car is the rear diff mount area of the body, in back above the differential.

My car had been repaired in this area when I bought it--the diff mount welded right to what was left of the body. Part of the upgrade to a 3.5 motor was repairing that mount with the BMW kit. Torque reaction to the 3.5 in first gear is about 1000 pounds, pulling down on that mount. So then I ran bolts from thr floor of the trunk thru the threaded inserts in the repair kit to reinforce it all (transfer the load to the floor of the trunk), and hold the diff mount to those bolts with nuts. That's never gonna come apart.
