Are you using the shielding plates that surround the guibo and are held in place by the Drive Shaft bolts. They are shown in place in the Chilton BMW manual for cars '70 to '88. It appears the purpose may be to shield the guibo from contamination, but perhaps they stabilize it also. Check this out. Must be a part available rom BMW. I have not seen them on any quibos that I have owned.
