My car also has a fluid level sensor in the brake reservoir that lights up the same light. Usually when the pads are about half worn, fluid level is low enough to need topping up. So if you still have enough pad material, check the fluid. If the pads are worn, replace them before adding fluid.

I think you jinxed me. I read your post, didn't know what it was, then last night mine came on as I was pulling into the garage. Probably from the panic stop I had on the highway when I came up on stopped traffic. Looked up in owner's manual, and for my '81 528i, its the brake pad sensor warning light. Guess its time for pads and rotors.

What does the dash light above the fuel gauge indicate? Electrical something, right? I get consistent flickering in all conditions. Had car 6 months fixing little problems as they appear. Thanks
