Hi Don,

The 530i was sold in the USA from 1974-1978. The engine is a 3.0 liter, in-line six cylinder. The chassis designation is called "e12" and yes, it pre-dates the 528e by several years. In 1979, the 530i was replaced with the 528i, which sold in the USA through 1981. Then in 1982, the 528e was introduced in the USA and carried a chassis designation of "e28." There were also other e28 models with various features, engine displacements, and trim packages.
