I have recently been experiencing an intermittent over-heating problem with my 1976 530i (not equipped with California emissions). Most of the componenets including the water pump, rad core, expansion tank and some hoses are less than a year old so I am having trouble diagnosing the problem. I am quite certain that the fan-clutch is seized, however it is seized in the engaged position as the engine fan turns constantly. Could this be the culprit as the water pump is always turning at a constant rate? Would having the fan clutch seized in the engaged position cause the car to overheat? Any input will be welcome!!
