528i Mirrors - what else do they fit? (archive)

This drivers side mirror is from an early 80's 528i. What other BMW models and years will it fit? What is the last year of an E12?
How can I test it? I've applied voltage to a couple pins getting it to move left/right but not sure about up/down.
