According to my book, your original 530i has 3.504x3.150 (BoreXStroke), 176 HP @5500, 188 ft-lb @4500.
For a 3.3 of the same vintage, as in 733i, the numbers are 3.504x3.386, 176@5500, 192@4000. More torque @ lower RPM should make you happy for a daily driver.
In 1982 the compression ratio increased, same borexstroke, 181@6000, 195@4000.
In 1985 3.5 liter engine started: 3.62x3.38, 182@5400, 213@4000

I put a 3.5 into my car, and it's a blast...

good luck

karl
