You are right, the early e24 chassis is the same as e12.

The stock brakes on these cars are much better than the later e28 cars, with 4-piston front calipers and 2-piston rear. My data point is a drivers' school, in August, in Kansas. My son and I shared one car, and it never got a chance to cool off. People were giving up due to heat, but the brakes never did. That's stock brakes, high temp fluid, Mintex pads. Oh, and the car has a 3.5 engine, so it gets fast enough to use some brakes. So my opinion is that brake upgrade is not really a great way to spend money on these cars.

Just my $.02 -- YMMV, etc...
