I agree with Karl. I also have a built 3.5 and have gone to a number of drivers schools, a couple on a pretty fast track with very heavy braking (115mph down to 35 mph) and with proper prep, e12 brakes are very good.

1) Remove the splash gaurds on the front, lets more air in for cooling.
2) Get some stainless steel flex lines, much better feel.
3) Flush the brake fluid at least 2 or 3 times, if it has not been done in a while.
4) Use a good quality track pad.
5) Use your brakes agressively at the track, DO NOT ease into them or drag them. The more time you give your brakes too cool in between applications, the easier it is on them. In other works, BRAKE HARD, BRAKE SHORT.

BTW e28 M5s used the same front calipers that the e12/e24(early) used. That should say something for our brakes.
