The gearing on the 3 series and 5 series were totally different, and the speedometer reflects that as well.

Of course that one little gear has split in my 77 530i unit. So I checked the junkyards and I found 3 with the same problem. So here's my question. There's a 3 series unit that I can make fit. Is it geared differently or will it show the correct speed and distance? Thanks!
