79 528i Intermittent non-starting (archive)

Having a problem with an intermittent failure to start.

The engine will crank fine (recent starter replace) it just will not fire up. Other times it will start fine and run like a champ. I process of attempting to resolve, with shops and on my own, I have replaced -

Coil
ICU (Ignition control Unit)
Cap & Rotor

Has had a recent tune-up.

My next guess is the Key Cylinder. It may have a short in an electrical switch

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm at my wits end.
