Either way - you are going to have to pull the head. If its shot - I would look for a '79 - '80 L-jetronic Euro motor complete - I just picked one up with a complete w/rebuilt head (clean) for $1000
Then you can have your (extra)head - get it ported/polished - slap a hot cam(282) in it - Your back in the 235-240 h.p. range - better than the stock 218h.p. Good luck! OH, is the car grey??? with tan /gray interior???? I know that car.....
