How to remove fan clutch? (archive)

I'm trying to replace the fan clutch on my '80 518i. It's the single bolt type. How do I hold the pulley still while I turn the nut? Also, the book says it's got reversed threads...true? I've been pulling like crazt clockwise and can't hold the pulley still.
