First oil change? (archive)

I'm a bit concerned that the dealer tells me that I do not have to change the oil in my new "01 525 for 15,000 miles! At the time we bought it, I mentioned that I would bring it in at the normal 3-5K for the initial oil change. They originally told me not to worry untill 10,000 miles.
AT 10,000 I called and they said if I still have green lights on my dash at start-up, not to worry. Just bring it in at 15,000 for the initial oil change, and any other service that might be needed. 15,000 miles for a first oil change? Is that right? Every other car I've ever owned, as well as a few motorcycles demands that the first oil change be done no later than 3-5k miles. Are BMW's really engineered that good that they don't need the early change?

Thanks,

Joe
