Sorry, this is just wrong. The weight isn't that much different. You don't need to do anything to the springs. And you don't need to swap out electronics either. You can if you want to, convert to motronic, however, it isn't a requirement.

Sorry Charlie, not trying to start a flame war, just trying to dispel some myths. I do agree that a 2.8 liter enigne is a good choice, but really not any more easy than a 3.5 liter motor.

Greg

I just bought a 1980 528i. The engine is blown. Will any other engines maybe from a 535i or 735i fit? I'm talking just the bare block and head. I'll swap the old fuel injection. Or do I have to go with just the same 2.8 liter?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Daniel

Hi Daniel, you can put those engines in, but you need to swap out the electronics not to mention the suspension adjustments for the extra weight in the front. If I were you, I would find another 528 motor, they are for the most part bulletproof. Yours must have quite a few miles on it. I have one if you want it. I have a whole car that runs great if you want it, only 103k original miles. I am in NC. Email me if you are interested, good luck.
