88 520i drivers door lock question (archive)

I have an 88 520i European spec that is having problems with the driver's door lock.

If you are familiar with European spec BMWs, you know the only way to lock the vehicle from outside is with the key (unless you have an alarm/locking system).

The dilema is that the driver's door will not lock when the key is turned. The other 3 doors will lock. Also, the drivers door will not lock from the inside either. Is there a possiblity that a mechanism inside the door is jammed? Any ideas which it could be?

One last thing. When unlocking the doors from outside, the locks raise (except the driver's, it never locks), but then lock again. I am not turning the key in the locking position, but returning to the 12 o'clock position. When I unlock them again, they remain unlocked. Any thoughts on this?
