80'528i cracked head? (archive)

about a month ago took road trip to yosemite area, on the way home through the 100 degree valley i blew hot water hose to intake, drove car 2-3 miles with little or no water to kettleman city to make repairs w/ no noticeable damage. week ago upon start up on cold day had huge amounts of steam from tail pipe, goes away after about 5 min. is this a cracked head?, delayed result of overheating? any miricle drug out there to fix or delay major repair and what is ultimate repair? TIA
