About 6 months ago I had the same problem and I checked the ground to the block and found it to be marginal. My recommendation before you decide to pull the starter is to get some heavy guage stranded wire and connect it directly to the negative side of the battery and the other end to the block and hopefully it will start.

help! my E12 (which i adore) won't start! lights and accessories work, but turning of the ignition key results in one metal-on-metal "clank"...i think it is the starter but i want another opinion to make sure. thanks!



Mike is correct. I had the similar problem. Check the grounding.
