A mechanic I talked to today says he had the problem on his 633i and he had to push the re-set button on a small box (maybe 2x2) on the underside of the car. Take a screwdriver and push the button in till it clicks. This box is connected to the speedo cable half way between the tranny and the dash. It is on the driver's side towards the center of the car on the frame of the car(this is hard to describe). It is to the rear of the driver's side wheel-well between the transmission/and side,,,,underneath the car below the master cylinder/brake booster. This should do the trick. It is like an EGR switch that at a certain number of turns by the speedometer, turns on to tell the owner about service requirements.
