In this age of plastic bits, snazzy doodads, that seem to isolate you from the road, and look very much like other 3rd grader drawn versions of cars, is it impossible to see the appeal? Why do 1957 Chevrolet Belairs, command such loyalty? They're big, heavy, certainly not practical vehicles, yet some today sell for more than the average 3 bedroom home in the suburbanite world where they are so loved.
I say this in defense of my love for the E12.
1. I can find it in a parking lot, with out having to add a little flag to the antenna.
2. Find any, american auto manufacturer that offered 4 wheel disc brakes, and 4 wheel independant suspension as standard from 1975 to 1981. I'll save you some trouble. The Corvette and that's a 2 seater.
3. With out the need to install turbos, nitros, or superchargers these cars produce a respectable power to weight ratio.
4. Speaking of ratios. The E12 a four door car boasts a near perfect 50/50 weight distribution on the scales. So handling is of course well above par.
5. Oh, I drive a BMW. Yet I also own a multitude of other cars, for various reasons. The '96 Impala SS is a collectable. The '95 Caddy STS is about one shade away from purple and only about 6 MPH slower than the Impala. But I drive the BMW which simply out handles any other car I have.
6. I drive it because it confuses the low rider, boy racer set when I pull away from them. Oh it's not that they were beaten by a BMW that bothers them. It's beacuse they could have spent a fraction of money and had one just like it...

This rant brought to you by Drivers of the E12. The car an engineer would drive.
