the message below I posted onto the E23 board BUT I visited the place again yesterday and espied a 528 (carb) in deep blue with dark blue cloth trim, '79 model I think, this one was in clean cond (for a junkyard resident!). Also saw the rustiest E24 I've ever seen. must have been off the road for years before coming into the yard. Also an '86 325i in Henna, looked too good to scrap but maybe the motor has died. This place is so jammed with dead Bimmers, you cant even walk between them.
Previous posting:yesterday I got bored with TV and decided to drive to the local town Braintree. Parked in the rail station carpark and was walking around in the cold, when I came across a real find. A garage yard Chock-Full-0-Dead-Bimmers. the place appeared closed so I snuck in for a peek. there were loadsa E28/E30/E23 in varying states of dismantling.some were fresh in, some were stripped out carcasses that the vultures had gotten to. What caught my eye were two E23s. 1983 735i in Burgundy-Met. not too horrible cond. looked saveable to me. 1986 735i in Silver with full Nutria leather trim. this one was in a terrible state but the leather was good, and the trunk lid too. I (almost) felt tempted to try to save them and make one good car out of the two, perhaps. Anyone mad out there who saves abandoned/unloved/unwanted old bimmers?
also spotted several E28s incl a very tidy 1986 528i in Alpine which I think they were trying to sell for around $1800. but it had been there a while & not been cleaned.
Also spotted in the station car park was an abandoned 1979/1980 733 or 735 in deep blue with much later alloy wheels. all complete but just unloved/unwanted. someone had written in the grime on the windshield "please scrap me".
any views/comments?
Have a great New Years Eve party fellas, and a happy 2002!
