Im not saying this happened, but I know that the same symptoms can happen if you over rev in N or P. First I would look at the linkage as that could also be it. I have a 5-speed w/drive shaft and pedel assembly from a 88'535i w/96,xxx if you are interested in a conversion. I was going to put it in my 80'528i but Im reconsidering. What can it be?
