I took my son to Sebring yesterday to do the safety school. It was amazing watching him do the autocross type cone course, clearly improving, from a very tentative first run, to a very fast last run. It's incredible how quickly kids learn. the last run I videotaped from inside the car.

The guys in the Sunshine BMWCCA chapter are in a class by themselves.

Just before class, we saw a truck pull in with a EURO e-12 race car on the trailer. It's an 81, fully prepared, and comes with an HSR logbook. This means that you can race it in just about any vintage series. In BMW club racing it's classed as something like J prepared. Translated, that means you can race, keep up, and go home with lots of trophies, because there's never anyone else in your class.

The motor is a euro 3.3, modified. Head has been ported, polished, extruded, and has a 3.12 cam. Makes over 300hp. Has a dogleg trans with special rear end. Coil overs, and 3" pipe to the muffler in back.

The guy is located in Charlotte. E-mail:

dnichols@nascarimages.com

He bought it to race, but said he simply didn't like to since he wasn't that good. Uses it as a track car for driving schools, etc., but doesn't have time for it anymore.

If I only didn't have kids.......
