You want a head from a 1980 or 1981 528i, although heads from all M30 (big six) motors will fit. You cannot use a head from any 82 and later 528e, as that is the M20 motor (baby six) and although it is classed as a 2.8 liter, it is an entirely different engine from yours.

Go to the firstfives board...www.firstfives.org which is strictly for e12 cars, and some very nice people there will surely fix you up with a head, either a rebuildable core or a reconditioned one. That's www.firstfives.org, the only real forum for your car... (kidding, but true)
