No, not top dead center, BMW times them weird, there is a TDC mark and a timing mark both on the flywheel, and you want the timing mark which is 25 degrees (I think) before TDC. That is at a certain speed, 2100 I think is the spec but I don't recall for sure, but I found it ran better with more advance, using the mark at about 15 or 1600 RPM. They are a real pain to time, to keep the idle speed up to whatever, look at the tach to check it and use the timing light all at the same time. Too much advance and it will ping and loose top end power, too little and it will be read doggy, low power.
