I also converted an early Bavaria to early L-jet and loved it. It improved the driveability greatly and once I got it set up, I never had any problems. I lost a little bit of torque but it would rev to 7K with good power. Does it seem rich or lean can you tell? Starving or flooding? Are you sure you got all the wires in the right place? Try getting a cheap water pressure gauge, five bucks or so at a building supply place and hook it up with a long fuel line so you can see what is happening when you drive it. Easiest hook up is probably the line going to the cold start valve. That can help sort out fuel or ignition.
