for a number of reasons. No thermal reactors, more power, better gas mileage, eaiser to tune, 5sp instead of 4 spd. If it runs good, has NO rust and the paint is decent, $300 is good. If not don't throw good money after bad because you will LOVE the car and wish you started with a cleaner example. Interiors can be had pretty cheap at the pull a parts. Handling is good - with a sport springs ($200 new) and bilsteins ($200 used) bigger sways ($100 used) and 16in wheels ? handling is damn good. Cars will run long (300K+) and strong if it is later head, repairs are very straight forward and the many experts at www.firstfives.org can see you through just about anything. Also see the great FAQ section there. Eaisly one of if not the best all rounder BMW ever built.

I have the opportunity to purchase a non-running '78 530i- body is in excellent shape, interior is trashed, glass is all present and good, but, definitely a restoration job-for around 300.00. Currently, I have 2002's and 320's and was curious if these are great cars? How do they handle, what about wear and tear, ease of repair, etc?

Thanks in advance.......
