'85 524 td burping water out the overflow (archive)

I have an 85 524 td that uses water. I have replaced the ratiator, waterpump, and thermostat. Someone had told me at one time that it needs a two stage thermostat from the dealer, and a certain thermostat housing. Any info? Thanks,
