When the V-8's first came out, one of the magazines (C and D or R and T) tested them and said the 530i,while it was supposed to be an upgrade/replacement for the 535i, and it did have higher horsepower ratings, it felt more like the 525i. And as Lars said, I wouldn't touch it if it hasn't had the upgraded engine replacement, those V-8's are expensive to replace.
