The early (75 and 76) 530i had kind of a power bulge in the hood instead of the lines that went all the way from front to back. And as Tim mentioned, they had the gas filler in back and had smaller taillights. From certain angles they look surprisingly different, other times they look almost the same. They had door mounted mirrors and less power stuff than the later cars.
