From 2002tii boards...need advice (archive)

My 2002tii has an engine transplant. The engine number is 3310208, which my dealer tells me is an early 520i engine.

Now, my engine LOOKS like a 2002tii engine - ie mechanical Kugelfischer injection etc, but I have no idea if the 520i engine was exactly the same or whether it was only based on the tii engine. (I belive they have the same M10 designation.)

Can anyone tell me if the two engines were the same, or if there were certain differences eg pistons / heads / cams and so on?

Any help or links much appreciated.
