If you are talking about the 82 528e, the car was designed as an economy car. The engine (M20) has a mere 120 Hp, compared to the M30 engine. The performance engine for the 5 series was the 3.3L M30. The M20 was used in the smaller 3 body for the designation 325, but was only considered a performance model because of it's use in a much lighter, smaller body. The M20 is also called the "eta" engine (many consider the e to stand for economy). In the later 80's the M20 was to become the Super eta and a fairly hot engine then. Nothing spectacular from that engine until about 87 or 88, except in the smaller cars. As far as performance specs, can't help you... no sense looking for specs on a relative non-performer. Again, the 81 528i was a full M30 engine, but it also was not the performer in the pack. In the larger 5 bodies, you want the 3.3 Liter or 3.5 liter.
