Question about head casting numbers (archive)

I have a 1981 320i with the following cast in the side of the head. 1.8i and the number 81 in a circle, makes sense its an 81 car.

I also have a 1982 320i with the following cast in the side of the head. 1.8i and the number 79 in a circle, has the head possibly been replaced or is this not the year cast?
