Looking for some tech advice for a persistent problem with an 83 320is. Any ideas appreciated! I recently changed the head gasket including new head bolts, cold start injector, airflow meter etc and I'm still having running problems.

Symptoms:

1. Cold start - engine revs to 2000 and then drops to 900 after 30 seconds.

2. If you step on the gas is backfires into the intake manifold.

3. If you drive before the engine is 1/4 warm, at around 2200 rpm it will buck and miss, but at 3000 rpm it has loads of pull and no miss.

4. After the engine reaches 1/4 warm mark on Temp gauge the backfires and hesitation disappears.

5. However, when warm I only get a reading of 15lbs vacuum at 900 rpm which seems low.

Any ideas? timing?warm-up regulator
