I have an 83 320i. An activated carbon filter is located under the battery. It has two hoses; one goes to the intake manifold, and the other one is "supposed" to go back to the fuel tank. Well that one is rotted off. I can't find anything to connect to in the engine compartment.
Does anyone know where this line runs.

This is another source of a vaccum leak ! You may want to check yours out. If you do Please tell me where the small line runs and connects.
Thanks,
Nello
