: Hi
: I have just changed to a new Varta 66AH battery. For the past 7 days everything was ok. ('82 E21)
: This morning, I noticed the battery was weak. Driving to work (about 20km) and reaching the carpark, I stopped the car and then tried to restart it, the battery seemed dead.

: Is it my alternator? How do I check? Can I "service" the alternator short of changing one ($$)? If it is a leak, how can I troubleshoot this?
: Please reply soon as this is driving me nuts!

: Thanks,

Make sure there is no corrosion at the wires on the back of the alternator. With the car running, you should get around 14 volts across the battery posts. If not the alternator may be bad - but check all the wires for looseness and corrosion first.
Also make sure the ground strap from your battery is in good condition.
