I did it, picked up a 79 320 for 600 bucks while my 2002 undergoes a bit of an overhaul. It's been a nice, reliable driver (ignore posts above, this is a freak problem that will probably never happen to any other car, I have bad luck) Mine has a 3.91 limited slip, and it's quicker then my 74 was, although my compression was going out in the 02. I could pace a 325, and I've had the sucker up to about 105-107 in the stock 4 speed. Plenty of pep. Go for a 79-under, as well, it's nicer to have the real 2.0.
