Alan, Did you check on the bottom of the plenum there is a huge vacuum hose that runs to the exhaust, part of the emmissions, the hose should be red and very hard to get to. That made my car stop dead in its tracks, it is now plugged.
: Well, no luck.I checked EVERYTHING, and while I am now intimately familiar with 79 bimmer fuel injection systems (and the taste of gasoline . . .) I could not get the motor to stay running for more than about 10 seconds. My battery is now being recharged at my friends house. I also managed to smash the tube from the intake to the additional air slide into a million pieces (who would have thought it'd be that brittle?) I had spark, dist was not cracked, coil was ok. intake boot was without leaks, checked the baffle plate. The car goes to the mechanic tommorow. Hopefully I can find someone who is ok with the idea of DE-SMOGGING the motor. when I find out what is wrong, I will post again, just in case someone else ever runs across this bear of a problem. Thanks again, everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. I did find quite a few other little problems I need to adress when I get the car running again.
