As for the hard warm start...I pulled (what's left) my hair out on this one. Try replacing the fuel accumulator (back near the tank fuel pump). This part is commonly overlooked, and definitly goes bad over time. It is also sometimes refered to as a "pressure reservoir". Replacing it instantly solved my warm start problem, and best of all, it makes sense according the Bosch fuel injection book (which I recommend). My starter is much happier now.
: Does anyone know where to get a good shop manual for an '81 320i? ...preferably soft copy?
: My 320i is showing the classic problems--rough cold idle, hard warm start, surging during warm up, minor vacuum leaks, etc. I'm pulling my hair out, but getting close to fixing everything. Now it's time to get serious... the Hayes manual doesn't cut it anymore.
