: Hello all,
: I have a friend who is in the market to sell his 1983 320i. I believe the car is worth more in bits and pieces than as a whole car.
: Here are the details:
: EVERYTHING except for the clutch master cylinder is either perfect or brand new.
: The engine has only approx: 75K orig. miles. No wrecks, cracks etc.
: I would like to get offers on the parts of the car, as I have offered to do the dismanteling, and selling of them. No part is too small or too large, I also have a cutting torch, so body parts are not out of the question either. ( no rust at all )
: Please post offers or e-mail me @ brokernick@bmwcentral.com
: Nick
: car is located in Indiana.
This post sounds like someone trying to take advantage of a "friend". Tell me this BrokerNick, do you make any money if your friend just sells the car whole? If you're not making any money you should word your message a little more carefully.
That said, my humble CA opinion is that a solid good running 320i, especially a later model, will sell for $2500 or so. Parting it out might fetch the same amount of money in the end, but that doesn't include the time and effort it takes to dismantle it. If you're making YOUR money from dismantling the car, you should find a car that should be dismantled. From a wrecking yard stand point, 320i's are a dime a dozen and they usually won't spend more than a couple hundred bucks on one. A good motor will sell for $300-400, 5spd tranny for $250, the rest of the car is pennies on the dollar.
