Fuel pressure problem (archive)

Help...
Before I spend $100 on a new fuel accumulator/pressure reservoir, I want to make sure that's my problem. My '81 320i is fluctuating between 400 and 1200 RPM at idle. It runs very smooth while driving and accelerating... idle is the only problem. I've heard this part commonly causes these symtoms when it gets old (it's the original), by providing an erratic fuel pressure. All the vacuum problems are solved... and what a difference it made.
