alternator/battery problem (archive)

It has been years since I last had trouble with my battery/alternator, but alas time conquers all (even BMWs). I was wondering if someone could refresh me on how to test to see if I have a faulty alternator or battery. I have a multimeter, I just don't remember exactly what to look for. Any assistance would be much appreciated...
