Do not over torque those bolts. Are you reusing the stock bolts? Are the bolt holes in the block clean and all oil removed? Are the bolt hole threads in good shape? I run 15psi boost on my turbocharged M10 motored 320i and know of others running more with the stock head bolts and the same headgasket. Another thing did you retorque the bolts after 500 miles of use?

: Normally, head bolts on the M10 engine should be torqued to 54-55 ft lbs. Does anyone have experience or information about using higher torque for the 320i head? Like what the maximum safe value might be (assuming valves are re-adjusted, etc.). The reason for asking is that i'm using a turbocharged motor, and have recently blown a (cutting-ring) head gasket, although head was uniformly torqued to 54ft/lbs (checked all bolts upon disassembly). If feasible, i'd like to torque the head down harder next time, to try and avoid another blowout.
